Building a service-oriented architecture (SOA) is a long and risky process if not approached with a formal methodology for implementation. It must clearly define the required steps and the organizations overall business objectives. It is extremely rare that a SOA is built from scratch. The most common scenario is to integrate or reuse existing IT assets and resources to build new composite applications.
