Xcalia Launches Xcalia Studio™ 4.0

First visual tool to map database and service-oriented resources to Java object models into a SOA

Paris, France — December 12, 2005 — Xcalia, a leading provider of intermediation software to create dynamic transactional composite applications, today announced the availability of Xcalia Studio 4.0. This unique, intuitive visual mapping tool is the first in the industry to enable developers who build applications within a SOA to easily and simultaneously access and map Java objects to both databases and service-oriented resources.

Xcalia Studio 4.0 is tightly integrated with the Eclipse application development platform, and it can be run as an Eclipse perspective. Xcalia Studio 4.0 automates the generation of the XML metadata and mapping documents for a comprehensive view of the mapping between the Java classes and database or service-oriented resources. It also organizes the different tasks to be performed when accessing information to run an application.

Xcalia Studio 4.0 accelerates the speed and ease of object-to-database and object-to-service mapping with the addition of new functionality. It features wizards that enable auto-mapping based on configurable rules and support for a variety of mapping approaches such as bottom-up (generation of Java from relational schemas), top-down (relational schemas from Java) and meet-in-the-middle (mapping between existing Java and schemas). Developers can test multiple mapping possibilities and evaluate their impact on performance without having to write numerous XML metadata documents. It offers the flexible support of object-oriented modeling and programming concepts like inheritance, collections, interfaces and automated support for the persistent object-life cycle and object identifiers.

Xcalia Studio is a companion product to the Xcalia Intermediation CoreTM (XIC) and to the Xcalia Intermediation PlatformTM (XIP) that enables enterprises to combine legacy, mainframe and database resources with web services to dynamically integrate and orchestrate application business processes. The platform sits between the business and data layers to align business processes with applications, manage ongoing database and service interaction, and automatically execute transactions at runtime. XIC uses metadata to describe services and contains a single, reusable, repository for consistent, transparent access to any database or service-oriented resource. All Xcalia products are standards-based and support JDO, SDO and EJB.
