LIBeLIS becomes Xcalia and re-enforces its offer
Xcalia provides a unique answer to the challenge of
end-to-end Enterprise Information Access
Paris, France — 6 October 2004 — LIBeLIS, the leader in Enterprise
Information Access (EIA), has changed its
name to become Xcalia (www.xcalia.com). This name change will facilitate Xcalias
international
ambitions and heralds the availability of new additions to the LiDO and NAViLIS product lines so that
Xcalia can truly offer clients end-to-end EIA.
Pierre Violo, CEO of Xcalia explains: "Taking into account our international ambitions it became
necessary for the company to find a name better adapted to global markets. We found this in Xcalia
(Extremely Scalable Information Access). This key step for the company's success is also the
occasion to confirm our position in the EIA market and to announce a richer, product line. This offer
makes, Xcalia the only complete response to the challenge of data and enterprise application access
fit for a mission critical environment. We now have at hand all of the elements necessary to achieve
our international ambitions."
Xcalia proposes offers that cover each stage of an application's life, beginning with the identification of
business needs right through to the frequent modifications that can occur once an application has
been deployed. Xcalia's offer aims to interactively manage the two-way flow of information. On the
one hand, Xcalia products guarantee that information solicited from multiple and heterogeneous
databases by a Java application will display quickly and efficiently for the end user and on the other
hand we ensure that end users can seamlessly interact with the company's information system
through secure GUI interfaces generated by Xcalia products.
Indeed Xcalia is the only software developer to provide such an end-to-end solution. Xcalia products
and services will help our customers simplify the use of mission critical business applications while
improving the performance of these applications all the way to the end user. In addition using Xcalia
products will reduce the time and cost of development at every stage of the application's life cycle.
Xcalia's EIA offer comprises two product families:
- LiDO, dedicated to data access in a heterogeneous data environment
- NAViLIS, dedicated to the generation of the visualization interface and the dynamic
personalization of the Enterprise Java applications
Each product family features specific solutions that are targeted to the needs of the diverse actors that
intervene on a typical EIA / Java applications project (developers, database architects, deployment and
production teams).
In keeping with the choices of the founders Xcalia adheres to all relevant industry standards (JDO,
J2EE, J2SE, J2ME, JCA, JTA, JNDI, JDBC, EJB, JMX). Via its founder and CTO Eric Samson, Xcalia
plays a determinant role in the definition of many of these standards. Eric Samson continues to
participate in the specification of JDO, SDO and EJB.
Xcalia's offer
The LiDO product family guarantees data access between a Java application and any data source
whether it is RDBMS, XML, Mainframe, ODBMS, Flat file.... Because it simplifies, guarantees and improves access to
data, LiDO increases the productivity of development teams and application
performance once the application is in production.
LiDO XD, the cornerstone of the product family, allows developers to use all of the principle functions
of LiDO in a development environment against open source relational databases. They will be able to
rapidly and efficiently solve data access challenges in a heterogeneous data environment and better
manage business requirements. Featuring APIs and complete documentation, LiDO XD can be used
alone or together with other Xcalia products. LiDO XD is available free of charge and can be
downloaded from the Xcalia website at www.xcalia.com
LiDO Studio is a unique visual development tool that eliminates most of the work related to data
persistence. Instead of writing laborious code, developers need only trace on their desktop a
graphical access path between the required data source and their Java classes.
LiDO Express is an EIA run-time product for ISVs who want to embed LiDO in their own applications,
ensuring the highest level of persistence portability.
LiDO Professional is a robust run-time product for use in a J2EE application server environment.
When used in conjunction with LiDO XD, LiDO Professional allows production teams to improve the
performances and flexibility of J2EE applications.
LiDO Enterprise is a run-time product targeted to the challenge of maintaining excellent performance
metrics for mission critical, transactional Java applications in a highly scaled environment. LiDO
Enterprise allows database administrators and production teams to monitor and dynamically tune the
application after it has been deployed to production without even having to restart.
The NAViLIS product family is a unique product. NAViLIS allows technical teams to dynamically
generate user interfaces both during the development cycle and once the application has been
deployed. It does this by directly soliciting the business object model for its information, so that at
every stage of development you have a real visual image of the application. The richness of the
business object model is captured and the corresponding connectivity at the database level is
ensured. Any change made to the business object model is directly reflected in a dynamic modification
of the visual interface that NAViLIS displays. In this way, NAViLIS can create, expose, modify, re-
locate, delete and query objects without the developer having to write a single line of code.
The NAViLIS family includes:
NAViLIS Swing is for architects and developers who want to validate their business object models at
the beginning of a project and who would like to test the data access layer without having to create a
specific test environment. It can also be used by programmers who want to generate a functional
application connected to real data so that business people and end users can validate work in
progress.
NAViLIS Enterprise provides all testing and deployment capabilities for web architectures. This
capability allows end users to remotely test and validate applications. NAViLIS Enterprise includes
several customization options.
NAViLIS Personalization is a complimentary product to NAViLIS Enterprise. It will provide
development and deployment tools for web architectures so that developers can write complex visual
pages in HTML wherever data access does not require technical code writing.
