PatentsXcalia has had a patent pending since September 22nd, 2005 about transparently accessing services from applications. This patent covers our new service mapping (that could be seen as an extension of the notion of object/relational mapping to any service-oriented data source, including web services, mainframes transactions, anything with a JCA connector, a JMS connector, etc.). The patent also covers metadata defining how services behave. This metadata will be used at runtime to find which services to call in order to reflect actions of business transactions. Finally, the patent also covers the notion of dynamic composition of services; that is, a way to call the right sequences of services at runtime in order to satisfy a business transaction without any requirement to describe that sequence during the development stage.
